Yoga at the Haven Spa

 

A Variety of Classes, Six Days a Week!   (See class descriptions below.)

CLASS DESCRIPTIONS:

 

SLOW FLOW >> Designed to build strength and flexibility, Vinyasa ("Flow") means breath to movement -- a moving meditation.

 

Class begins with a short meditation to connect to your breath. As we begin to move through each pose we keep the focus on breath and alignment. This class improves focus, balance and flexibility all while building strength. Work at your own pace and intensity to a fun and challenging sequence.

 

Class is for All Levels, therefore you choose the intensity of each pose. Modifications will be offered to make class accessible to all levels as well as variations to make the pose more challenging.

 

 

HATHA YOGA >> "Hatha" is the term for the physical practice of yoga, as well as a style of yoga itself.  The main difference between a Hatha style class and a Vinyasa (Flow) style class is that Hatha tends to move at a slightly slower pace, not 'flowing' the movements together as one would in Vinyasa.  

 

This class is based on physical postures ("asanas"), deep breathing, mindfulness and listening to the body.  The goal is to align, strengthen and promote flexibility in body, with an aim of leaving your practice feeling relaxed and balanced.  Traditional asanas are held in accurate alignment, as we make our way through standing, seated, and reclined postures, including twists, backbends, forward folds, and hip openers, etc. 

 

This class is good for beginners, as well as more advanced practitioners.

 

 

"DEEP CORE" YOGA >>  "Deep Core" Yoga is an asana-based movement sequence that connects mind to muscle, with a focus on developing a strong core.  We will move deep into the body, combining traditional yoga asana with micro-movements and physical touch to strengthen and tone.  Intentional, yet challenging, this class also includes breath awareness, self-touch and pressure point activation to help locate and release specific muscles.  

 

The core is the collective term used to describe the muscles that control your spine, specifically your abdominals, waist and lower back. A well-developed core provides essential spinal stability and can contribute to good posture. Both spine stability and good posture will help minimize back pain.  Suitable for all levels.

 

 

YIN YOGA >> Deep stretch and release!  

 

Yin Yoga targets the connective tissues of the hips, pelvis and lower spine. Yin postures are held for three minutes which gives the body an opportunity to open and release tension from deeper tissues. Props are used to help get into and stay in the poses. 

 

Yin is known as a quiet meditative practice. All levels welcome.

 

 

YOUR INSTRUCTORS:

 

Suzanne Dufresne 

Suzanne is a certified Yoga Therapist and Reiki Practitioner.  She offers a variety of classes from Slow Flow (mindful movements that build strength and flexibility) and Vinyasa Yoga (challenging flow that takes you out of your comfort zone and deeper into your practice) She will encourage you to work at your level of intensity and help you modify to make the practice accessible to all.  

 

Whether she is teaching Yin or Vinyasa Yoga, her smart sequencing makes each class therapeutic and healing for her students. Suzanne loves to design her classes based on what her students need and request.  Her greatest joy of teaching is witnessing the transformation of her students.

Joy Alexander 

Joy is is passionate about sharing her love of yoga with others.  Joy is a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT 500) and a Certified Massage Therapist (CMT).  She believes in the healing power of yoga, and that it is accessible to all of us -- at any age, or stage, of our lives.  Her teaching style is supportive, and is enriched by a knowledge of the physical and energetic bodies, which comes from her background in massage therapy and alternative healing modalities.

LOCATION:

 

The HAVEN SPA is located in Bajo Boquete. When entering town, look for the "Haven Spa" signs... the Haven is located just off the main road, tucked away in a blissful, natural setting. The Yoga Studio at has wooden floors, full length windows, and garden views. Mats & props provided.

 

 

PRICES:

 

Residents: $8.00 / class

Visitors: $10 / class

All classes are 60 minutes.
