Dottie Atwater
I'm going to try it!
Brundageba
That's funny. You'll know the gringos by the strong smell of stale beer with overtones of mouthwash smell.
Dottie Atwater
I hope this works...it's a heck of a lot of trouble to make. It takes FOREVER to dissolve the Epsom salts. I made it today and sprayed my outside dog crates. It will be revealing to see if I notice any mosquitoes on the porch tonight. Say tuned... TwoSailors
Dottie, Where did you buy the Epsom salts? Just a suggestion. Boil the salts and beer in a pan. Once dissolved add one more can of stale beer. Should not change the make up chemistry, I think.
Dottie Atwater
You can buy a large bag at Quimicas Ibis in David, 40 lbs., I think. It is not "food grade" so after dissolving it, you have to strain the mixture through a fine cloth. I strained it before putting in the beer. But it's nice to have a big bag for plants, soaking feet, etc. and the food grade is a lot more expensive. The mouth wash I got at the Dollar Store really doesn't have much mint scent. I used $10 worth at $2.00 per bottle. I sprayed it in my house and I found it leaves kind of a sticky residue on the floor that doesn't dry for a long time. I sprayed it on bed skirts and it is not visible there.
Dottie Atwater
Well, for me it didn't work. I don't know about the dog kennels outside because it was very windy last night, but I heard a mosquito buzzing in my bedroom near where I had sprayed the solution. This morning I saw a mosquito on the wall near an area I had sprayed. Maybe the problem is the lack of mint smell from the cheap (well, not so inexpensive) mouth wash from Todo a Dollar. I'm going to add some citronella and spearmint essential oils to a small portion and try again. Stay tuned...

Dottie Atwater
Well, I'll call this experiment a bust. If something like this would work at all, I think it would work just as well mixing the Epsom salts with water and then add some citronella oil. The dissolved Epsom salts gives kind of a greasy feel so it would no doubt "stick" to things. I have no idea what the beer was supposed to do. So here's your report from the "canary in the coal mine."
