The famed Manneken-Pis statue in Brussels, Belgium, adopted the Panamanian costume of the Congo culture from the afternoon of Thursday, August 8, to mark the 500th anniversary of the founding of Panama City.

mannaken.jpgThe Manneken-Pis (peeing boy) wears a king of the Congo costume consisting of a crown and a scepter, and its multicolored appearance refers to nature. The costume is used during dances that metaphorically recall the era of ancestors and the victory of good over evil. At the waist of the figure, stuffed cords are attached that refer to the families that have separated.

The commercial attache of the Embassy of Panama in Belgium and the  EuropeanUnion  Alfonso Young, gave the inauguration noting the strong history between the two countries, dating from the sixteenth century when Belgium and Panama were part of the same empire.

The congo culture was declared an Intangible Heritage of Humanity by  Unesco.
