Drug-resistant bacteria kill baby

A baby has died in the maternal and infant hospital José Domingo de Obaldía as a result of a multidrug-resistant bacterium "Klebsiella " reports the Ministry of Health. (Minsa).

Dr. Ericka Ferguson the Director of Epidemiology of the Ministry of Health (Minsa) in the province of Chiriquí,

Minsa, said that the infant had his health compromised by other clinical diagnoses while confirming that six other patients remain in the isolation room specially enabled for the containment of the bacteria  Three of them are affected.

The situation developed on February 14 when medical authorities at the hospital detected the multiresistant bacterium in the critical care room and enabled an isolation area.The first case was an infant transferred from the Neonatology Room of the Metropolitan Complex of the Social Security Fund (CSS) of Panama.
