Mesoamerica will analyze the environmental panorama and global threats in Panama

More than 1,000 experts from the Mesoamerican countries, Spain and the United States, will meet in the capital of Panama from 21 to 25 this month to analyze issues such as habitat loss and climate change and the challenges posed by their combat and mitigation.

The XXII Congress of the Mesoamerican Society for Biology and Conservation (SMBC) will address 17 themes that revolve around global change, biodiversity management and socio-economic aspects of biodiversity and conservation.

In this event, which will be held for the third time in Panama, nine lectures will be held with speakers from Argentina, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, United States, Spain and Mexico, there will be about thirty symposiums, in addition to free presentations and workshops

The Mesoamerican biological corridor: challenges of cooperation for conservation; the integration of biodiversity in productive landscapes: progress and challenges; and biodiversity at risk: when scientists need journalists, "are some of the central themes of the international meeting.

The organizers of the event, which will be developed under the theme "Mesoamérica unida para la conservación de la biodiversidad", explained that it aims to generate proposals between the Executive Committee of the Mesoamerica Project, researchers and students.

The idea is that knowledge is transformed and derived in possible solutions and contributions to reduce the impact of environmental threats on human populations and biodiversity.

The XXII Congress of the Mesoamerican Society for Biology and Conservation has the support of the Panamanian Ministry of Environment (MiAmbiente) through the Sustainable Production Systems and Biodiversity Conservation Project in the Mesoamerican Biological Corridor - Panama.

The congress that had its previous edition in Costa Rica; Panama has already hosted its IV and XVI versions in 2000 and 2012, with the successful participation of hundreds of students and professionals from throughout the Mesoamerican region.

Prior to the event, next November 20, the XVI Meeting of National Coordinators and Links of the Mesoamerican Biological Corridor will be held.

This November concludes the Pro Tempore Presidency that Panama holds in the Executive Committee of the Mesoamerica Project that, this year celebrates its tenth anniversary with advances in the formation of the Mesoamerican Business Council (CEM), the Strategic Plan of the Mesoamerica Project for the 2018 period -2022 and the Promotion and Financing Commission (CPF), under the direction of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).

The Mesoamerican Society for Biology and Conservation, formed in Honduras in 1996, seeks to promote the exchange of knowledge, the training of human resources, scientific research and its dissemination at the service of the conservation of the biological and cultural diversity of Mesoamerica, through forums and congresses.

Currently, the Mesoamerican Society for Biology and Conservation is composed of chapters in each of the Mesoamerican countries and Cuba.

OVER  1,000 experts from the Mesoamerican countries, Spain and the United States will meet in Panama  November 21 -25 analyze the loss of habitat, climate change and the challenges posed to combat and mitigate its effects.

At the XXII Congress of the Mesoamerican Society for Biology and Conservation (SMBC), 17 themes will be addressed that revolve around global change, biodiversity management and socio-economic aspects of biodiversity and conservation.
