Tuesday, October 9  The Amazing Story of the Fight to Eradicate Polio from the World  -

Laura Daniel will address the effort led by Rotary International for the past 30 years to put an end to the disease that killed or paralyzed millions during the previous century.  The presentation will look at the history of the disease, and the efforts to eradicate it.  That effort is led by Endpolio.org,an organization consisting of Rotary International, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, WHO, UNICEF,  and the US Centers for Disease Control. October 24th is World End Polio day, in memory of the birthday of the founder of the polio vaccine, Jonas Salk.

Laura Daniel is an environmental scientist with a B.S. in Environmental Sciences and an M.S in Environmental Policy and Management. She specializes in air quality issues, including pollution control systems and climate change.  She has worked for both Conoco and Mobil Oil companies, and has owned her environmental consulting business since 1993.  She and her husband Lamar have lived in Chiriqui since 2006, where they have cattle and avocado farms.  Laura is a member of the Boquete Rotary Club (Club Rotario de Boquete) where she has served as Secretary, Executive Secretary, Vice President and President Elect (2019-2020). As a part of Rotary International, the Boquete Rotary Club works not only to serve the needs of the local community, but also to support humanitarian works around the world.  It is through this connection, that the Boquete club supports Rotary International's efforts to eradicate polio throughout the world, a fight that is so close to success.  Laura is also a member of Buenos Vecinos of Boquete.

                                          what the (expat) employer’s responsibilities are.

                                                Louise Orr spent 29 years in the California wine business. During that time

she worked as a Marketing Coordinator for De Loach Vineyards of

Sonoma County, and for Boisset America, a French wine firm, that acquired De Loach in 2003. In 2007 she retired to Boquete, and has been active with Buenos Vecinos de Boquete food charity, and the BCP Theater. Louise takes a practical, relaxed approach to the enjoyment of wine. She will offer some tips on buying, serving, and becoming confident about your wine choices. After all, the topic of her Tuesday Talk is “The RIGHT wine is the wine  YOU enjoy!”

 

Tuesday, November 27Filippo Maestrini from Grupo Aguas Chiriqui will address the current

water quality in Boquete, different method for water purification, and how 

            to maintain your water purification system.
