  2. Moderator comment: This news article is specifically about events in Colombia. I have opted to post it here as it likely is a peek into possible future actions here in Panama. http://www.prensa.com/in_english/Congelan-cuentas-bancarias-Colombia_21_4694740481.html
  3. Help Boquete Rotary to support our Scholarship and Solar light for the Indigenous Panamanians programs. You can drop off your donations at the BCP on Tuesdays starting Feb 21, 28 and March 7th. We will be there with a car or truck waiting for your items. You can also contact one of your Rotary friends and we will pick up your donations at your place. It would be great if you could support our fundraising event March 11 to donate the extra things that you do not need. Our Venta de patio in 2016 was a great success. Thank You. Please continue your support. The venta de Patio this year is going to be held in Portrerillos Arriba Basketball court on March 11, starting at 10 am to 3 pm. --
  4. Dear Friends and Animal Lovers, Our good friend Dr. Darrell Gueulette, Veterinarian, after enduring life-changing events, is leaving Panama, and is desperately looking for a GOOD LOVING COMFORTABLE HOME for his two beloved young dogs Millie and Pancho, by the first week of March 2017. Both are Sterilized Spayed and Neutered. Millie: Female dog, red, mixed-breed Doberman-cross – 1 year 6 months Pancho: Male dog, black and tanned mixed-breed Shepperd-cross – 1 year 6 months Millie and Pancho have always grown and been together and are inseparable best friends. We desire for them to remain together. They need a fenced yard with walks, or open space or farm to run and exercise; and mostly they urge a LOVING HUMAN COMPANION. They have a cat and leave the cat alone. They must NOT be near chickens as they will chase and kill chickens. 5. The upcoming production of The Dixie Swim Club by the Boquete Community Players needs some help from the community to produce this show. We would like to BORROW a portable bar, such as the one shown, for the play. It is needed for two weekends only, for 5 performances. We are able to keep it secured and safe. We also really, really, really need two hairdressers and two make-up people (on a volunteer basis) for dress rehearsals and the performances. It would be necessary to be available for each performance. Rehearsal dates are March 15 and 16; Performance dates are March 17, 18, 19, 24, and 25. The cast is having a great time at rehearsals! This play is fun and entertaining and, with YOUR help, it will be an awesome production for our community! Please contact me at chrisinpanama@outlook.com or on 6559-2148 -or- Gabrielle Reynolds at gabrey03@yahoo.com to help... Muchas gracias, Chris Jones Producer ChrisInPanama@outlook.com --

  9. There are two big community events scheduled today, Saturday, February 18th in Boquete. You do not have to join anything or any group, or pre-register, prepare anything -- just be there and participate. Both events start in Parque Central in Boquete. The first event starts at 1:00PM, and the second event at 2:00PM. Why not have some fun, meet some new people and renew old acquaintances, do something good for and learn more about our special community, and have some fun at the same time. Don't let the street construction and inconveniences regarding the Boquete Water Works project stop you. Again, the first event starts at 1:00PM in the park, and the second event starts at 2:00PM in the same park. Could it have been made any easier for you? Here are the two events and links to more information about those two events: Heart in the Park - A Day of Awareness and Appreciation sponsored by FPI (the Handicapped Foundation): http://www.chiriqui.life/calendar/event/597-heart-in-the-park/ "Poker Fun" Fundraising Event Sponsored by ABC: http://www.chiriqui.life/calendar/event/571-poker-fun-fundraiser-hosted-by-abc/ --

  12. Movie starts at 1pm, and food, drinks and popcorn will be available from Cafe La Villa. (Early birds get the comfy sofas, but if you like, you can bring cushions for the hard restaurant chairs, or folding/camp chairs for more comfort.) There is no admission charge, but we ask for voluntary donations to support the program and help pay for the audio/video system. Below is the list of our films for the next four weeks. I plan to send out details each film the week before the screening. February 19: Zootopia (2016 - U.S.) Animated, comedy - rated PG February 26: Manchester by the Sea (2016 - U.S.) March 5: Tracks (2013 - Australia) March 12: Buena Vista Social Club (1999 Documentary about Cuba) ----- Description: It's time to lighten up a bit this Sunday, and we will be screening the 2016 Disney animated film "Zootopia" - pure family fun. I have mixed feelings about Disney films, mainly because of its history of sanitizing reality and convincing so many children that everyone can grow up to be a prince or princess. On the other hand, in recent years, Disney films have been a bit more realistic with characters and roles that are relevant to real life - and the fact that the world is not perfect. I believe that the Roger Ebert website again has the best review, because it looks beyond the fluff and discusses the flaws in this film, giving it a 3 out of 4 rating. In spite of those flaws, I found the film to be absolutely delightful and fun even as an adult. It certainly entertained millions with its lighthearted approach to stereotypes and discrimination using anthropomorphized animal characters. “Zootopia [is] a fantasy set in a city where predators and prey live together in harmony, is a funny, beautifully designed kids’ film with a message that it restates at every turn. But if you think about that message for longer than five minutes...it invites a reading that is almost surely contrary to the movie’s seemingly enlightened spirit: discrimination is wrong, but stereotypes are stereotypes for a reason, and it’s not easy for members of a despised class to overcome the reasons why the majority despises them, so you gotta be patient."
