  1. If you have a Friendly Nations visa you also have a Carnet that says "Residente Permanente." Therefore, there is no need for an E Cedula. Folks with a Pensionado Visa are regarded as "Permanent Tourists." Bonnie, you're probably fine with what you have. I agree, why go to the added expense and time (hassle) to get a Cedula?
  2. What does that mean Judy? Driven him away? Some yahoo on Ning is saying he got banned from CL - can't be true, can it?
  3. No way Alison. Penny is absolutely right that Lynnie, or one of her 20 personalities, is resurfacing. We all know you've had a feud with Keith for years. Kiss and make up and get back to your good self Lynnie.
  4. I loved that haiku as well and am surprised she's still allowed on Ning. They've banned for far less!
  5. Don't forget Mi Ranchito for an outstanding seafood (Panamanian style) lunch or dinner. It's on the Amador Causeway and well worth the cab ride out there.
  6. Air Panama to Albrook and then pick your spot to stay. For the last few years we've been staying at The Toscana Inn in El Cangrejo. We quit staying at the Milan for a variety of reasons including their anti-Gay policy and how it affected close friends of ours. Also, the rooms smelled like moth balls last time we were there, and there was no hot water. When I mentioned it at the front desk, the girl working there acted like I was really putting her out by making this observation. The Milan is cheap but they don't seem to care at all about customer service. The Toscana is a couple blocks from there and around the corner from Martin Fierro and a host of other good restaurants. It's also just down the street from the Veneto Casino which is an interesting place to say the least.
  7. The new Ning is pretty pathetic in a variety of ways as evidenced by the lame topics of discussion I've seen in the last 6-8 weeks. I would like to echo the above comments in supporting Al and PT for taking a stand. I certainly hope that some of the other advertisers do the same and withdraw their ads when renewal time comes.
  8. It's turned into "Walter-landia" and all the related nonsense that follows. Somebody said, "Lee's dream has died." So true, so true. From the non-Panamanian flowers to the removal of posts, people, and sanity, it's painful reading Ning these days.
  9. By the way, the Equis (Fer-de-Lance) as it's called here have been found way up on Baru. Some years ago Lee posted a picture of one that had been hung on a stake in the ground along the hiking trail on the mountain. Also, they find them all the time in Alto Jaramillo. Jess posted some very interesting stories on Ning a while back about these varmints. They are found all the way from Southern Mexico to Ecuador, usually in lowland jungle regions, but as we all know, they are really prevalent in CR and Panama. Seems like Caldera and Gualaca might just be the snakiest places in Panama (Brisas too). Allison, I'd be a nervous wreck if I lived where you guys are. I admire your knowledge and bravery around these deadly creatures and thanks for putting out all this info. You're right about asking the locals for their experiences around vipers - they have a healthy fear of these guys and will always say so. They would never consider relocating an Equis, they just kill 'em!
  10. I'd have to agree about Volcan (no offense to anyone who lives there). As you are aware I'm sure, there's plenty to do and see in and around Boquete. I really think you need to plan on spending 6-9 months there to get a good feel for the weather, activities, and learn some Spanish. See what the rainy season is like before you make the move.
  11. Beautiful lot for sale in El Santuario. The lot is a corner lot that measures 1500 sq meters and is flat and ready for building. This neighborhood is considered one of the nicest in all of Panama for a number of reasons. It's a pretty plateau 5 minutes drive from downtown Boquete, one road in and one road out so it's very secure. There's also a new Neighborhood Watch program there which speaks to the close knit community feeling of the neighborhood. Infrastructure is great with zero water problems, garbage pick up twice weekly, super cell phone reception, and CableOnda offers high speed Internet service. Casa Solution will handle all paperwork and Corporation transfer but you can call us on our Us Skype number for more information: 408-520-9566. Motivated seller!
  12. Aloha John Henry. We also lived in Maui for years. You'll find Boquete to be like Paia was about 20 years ago. ScotiaBank is friendly and easy to set up a new account. One bank reference should do the trick. As previously mentioned, write a check off your U.S. Account, wait a couple weeks, and your funds are ready. We use credit cards at grocery stores, Price Smart, and for gas and get the miles on UA or AA and pay no Foreign Transaction fees. The suggestions for using Schwab and/or Capital One are good as well. By the way, we usually go into Scotia to withdraw cash but their ATM is good too. The other ATMs in town can be a crap shoot at times.
