  3. Crash Course Spanish Classes with Renny start on a Monday March 11th – April 18th, 2024, two days a week (Mon. & Thurs.) It is a six-week class. This is a fun easy class. If there is any practice or homework, those with busy schedules will love having the option of doing them by email or Whats Ap at their convenience. _________________________ COST: $199 As many people know, Renny, a degreed professional, owned a language school in David under contract with the Panamanian Government giving classes for them, and also had one in Houston. She is now offering several levels of Spanish classes in Boquete, Basic Level, and Intermediate. These are professional instructions with an easy, clear curriculum and the correct sequencing of material. Location of the class is in Boquete All of the Spanish Classes are called Crash Course Spanish **** The first Basic class meets Mondays and Thursdays 9:30 a.m. - 11:30 The Basic Classes will get you speaking fast! It shows how the language is organized, and teaches the tricks of the language, the basics: pronunciation, some important cultural notes, phrases, vocabulary, speaking; fluid short conversations, how to ask and answer questions. You will practice and share tips, create full sentences, and learn this trick, how to speak without conjugating verbs. Workbook is included. The Crash Course Intermediate Class **Class meets Mondays and Thursdays 1:00 p.m. - 3:15 p.m. You will USE your acquired Spanish language! You will speak in class, get tips for learning to listen and respond, you will have short exchanges, pronounce the difficult, role play, learn word order, expand your vocabulary, and engage in specialized classes to gain better listening skills. You will speak every day, learn a higher use of some verbs without conjugating, create interesting sentences, listen to songs, conduct interviews, and give short speeches. Learn by doing. Each student will translate for someone. It's time to do better at understanding what Spanish speakers are saying BECAUSE… the class also engages in "Train your ear” as well as “Practicing Speaking”, all of this as you learn more and more Spanish fast; you build the confidence you need to converse with others. Workbook is included. Pre-requisite for the **Intermediate Class : you MUST be at the intermediate level of speech, no exceptions **Intermediate Class To enter this class the following will describe your level of speech: You respond to simple, direct questions or requests for information, can ask a few questions concerning needs and wants, and are able to express personal meaning by relying heavily on learned or re-combined phrases, repeating, or rephrasing what you hear around you. You know short and sometimes incomplete sentences in the present tense. At times you know you state things incorrectly but gain confidence because the Spanish speaker “got” what you were trying to say. You may be hesitant or inaccurate, whereby frequent misunderstandings arise. When called upon to handle a variety of topics and perform serious functions you operate at about a 40% to 50% success range, and can sometimes respond in intelligible sentences, but cannot sustain full sentence exchanges. You know the meanings/translations (not the conjugations) of at least 75 verbs. To express interest in this class, please respond to this information at the following email: rennykranich@gmail.com FOR MORE INFORMATION GO TO THE WEBSITE: On the site, please click various topics on the left side of your screen. 9. This week we’ve got some really big things happening. For starters our Chicken Pot Pies are back on the menu and they are delicious!! Our Pot Pies have tender juicy chicken breast that’s been lightly seasoned, vegetables (carrots, peas, celery) that have been perfectly cooked, a flavorful silky smooth creamy gravy, and a crust that cooks up crispy and flaky on both the top and the bottom!! These Pot Pies are soul satisfying and will transport you back to a time when things were much simpler. Unfortunately, a dish like this quite labor intensive to make so we’ve only made a limited amount, be sure to get yours while supplies last. Dog Treats!!! WOW, we are super excited to be rolling out several new product lines this week. The first is our “The Main Corso” line of Dog Treats. Some of your have already had the chance to meet the newest additions to our family, our 2 Cane Corso (Italian Mastiffs) puppies, Titus and Beta. Don’t let the word puppy fool you though as these 8-month-old dogs now weigh close to 100 pounds!! As you can imagine, training both puppies at the same time has been a blast and we always try to have some sort of special dog treats available. We wanted to give our dogs 100% natural treats and snacks. Basically, treats with only 1 ingredient!! That started our journey into making amazing snacks for canines of any size. I can say these treats have been thoroughly tested and approved by our furry test subjects😉. On our menu there will be a section called “The Main Corso” and it will have everything that is available at that time. We plan on expanding the line of treats and snacks in the near future to include both dehydrated and freeze-dried snacks and treats. This week we have authentic bully sticks, dehydrated esophagus, dehydrated chicken feet, dehydrated chicken necks, dehydrated pork ears (full size), dehydrated pork ears (strips), and pork hides. All of these products have been carefully prepared and either baked, roasted, or low temp dehydrated to bring out the natural flavors that your dog will surely love. These single ingredient treats are healthy, emotionally stimulating, and delicious! Perfect for training, rewarding good behavior, or just a lazy afternoon snack. Our Titus really loves the bully sticks and the full-size pork ears. While Beta goes crazy over the dried esophagus and the chicken feet. I can’t wait to hear which treats your pup falls in love with!! Our next new product line is our Freeze-Dried Long-Term Storage Food and Freeze-Dried Candies. Freeze Dried Candies, sounds weird right? Freeze Drying does something magical to soft and chewy (tough on the teeth) candies. It turns them into crispy and light confectionary flavor bombs!! Skittles, salt water taffy, candy corn, jolly ranchers, caramel, you name it! You can experience candy for the first time like never before!! Oh, we’ve also got freeze dried Ice cream (on the horizon) as well. Not into the sweets, no problem. We are slowly rolling out our Freeze-Dried Long-Term Storage Meals. We’ve had lots of requests for these items and we are finally out of the testing phase. Our Freeze-Dried Long-Term storage meals are the same meals that you have come to know and love, just packed in a different way. The entire process starts with our team of chef’s. Your meal is expertly prepared and blast frozen to subzero temperatures (-30f). Once frozen these meals are transferred over to a special machine where they begin the process of lyophilization a.k.a. freeze drying. This usually takes about 50 – 60 hours and during that time the moisture in the food is slowly converted into a vapor, in this form the vapor leaves the food and sticks to the wall of the dryer. This process is called sublimation. The end result is food that has had the moisture removed from it and is now perfectly preserved. To keep the food in this state we use special mylar bags (7mil thick) and oxygen absorbers. These meals do not require refrigeration and can be kept in a cool dark place for at least 25 years. All you have to do is add hot water and you are good to go. The beauty of freeze drying is that it retains close to 97% of the food’s original nutrients and there is little to no loss of quality. That means when you heat up one of our freeze-dried meals it’ll taste as if it was just cooked!! I just had the Shepherd’s Pie and it was out of this world!!! We currently have our Boquete Chili, Shepherd’s Pie, and our Kicked-up Meatloaf available in these presentations but more are on the way. Just so you know, the Chili and shepherd’s Pie are portioned for 2 adults and the Meatloaf is a single serving. Thank you for your time and I look forward to seeing you soon. To see the new selections, you can check out our menu here: 2 Guys & A Cooler – We Cook, So You Don’t Have To (doshombrespanama.com) This is a membership site now so if you have not signed up to be a member be sure to select the option “Become a Member”. 14. Yesterday I managed to destroy the chat booking system website by thinking I was cleverer than I was! It is now back up and running so you may make reservations as usual on eventsboquete.org/reservations. If you have already reserved, your place is booked, but we no longer have your email on the system. This means that you will not receive a reminder, and therefore will not receive a link for cancelling your booking. If you want to cancel or change a reservation you have already made, please email chats@eventsboquete.org. Sorry for any inconvenience, but stuff happens! Phil

  17. The Boquete post office has a long list of people who have neglected to pick up their mail. Much of the mail is from the US or Canada taxing authorities and much of it is from the US Social Security Administration. If you fail to respond to a proof of life form mailed to you from Social Security, your checks will stop coming. Stop at the Boquete Post Office at the East side of the downtown park between 7 Am and 2:30 weekdays and between 7 AM and 12 on Saturdays. The nice ladies are waiting for you to pick up your mail.
  18. WELCOME TO THE FINCA FELIZ GARDEN TOUR In November 2010 I bought a small, neglected coffee farm just under 2800 square meters (approx. ¾ acre). I transformed it into my life-long dream of a place to grow organic food and medicinal herbs. Gardening in Panama has a “learning curve” I didn’t expect, and I will inform you of what I’ve learned including all the challenges and tricks that came along the way. Gardening can be a hobby or a passion. Either way, being successful is the goal, and sharing what I’ve learned will help you in your gardening journey. Finca Feliz is well known in Boquete for the blackberries (mora) and 3 varieties of avocados grown and made available. The newest addition of Electro Culture to the farm has proven this ancient technique works. Things grow bigger and better when you connect to the Electromagnetic energy of the earth. You will learn what plants in the garden will keep away the bugs and pests. The medicinal plants used for healing here in Panama, how to plant your seeds by the moon phases, making compost without turning the soil, and what organic products I use. There is a private nursery with many plants and orchids available, including Panama’s medicinal herbs. Electro Culture is the star of the tour. You’ll see how easy it is to install in your garden to benefit the soil and grow things bigger and better. Growing a 4 lb. avocado was all the proof I needed. Look for the flyer in town with a picture and information. Upon confirmation of your reservation, you will receive a list of plants available for sale from the Nursery, exclusive products produced only at Finca Feliz, and directions to the farm. It is located 4 km up Volcancito Rd. We are booking tours every other Monday at 9am starting Feb. 26th Mar 11th & Mar 25th.Saturday March 2nd 16th and 30th have been added to the schedule for those who work during the week. Accommodations for private groups are available. The price per person is $30. No pre-payment necessary, just pay when you arrive. If you can’t come, please let us know so someone else can attend. 19. Our mission is to provide low cost spaying and neutering of dogs and cats, and to promote the general welfare of animals in our community and surrounding areas. Si prefiere recibir los correos electrónicos en español, haga clic aquí.   AMIGOS DE ANIMALES BOQUETE PANAMÁ FEBRUARY 2024 NEWSLETTER   JANUARY CLINIC On Sunday January 28th, Amigos de Animales spayed or neutered 314 animals, 134 dogs and 180 cats with seven vets working. 72% of the animals were female and 49% came from Boquete. 236 animals were brought in by owners and 78 came with collectors.   CLINIC MUSINGS FROM OUR PRESIDENT by Leslie Sherling Sometimes it's about having great neighbors. . This is a highly condensed version of the story. If you would like the full story, please send me an email at: brubble51b@gmail.com Saving the Neighbor's Dog: Charcoal and Pumpkin Puree Hurston, Christy's little terrier mix, was poisoned by a cane toad while Jeanette (Christy's mom) was caring for their dogs. Despite the lack of available vets (this was on a Sunday), Debe and Rod Emerson, the neighbors sprang into action. Unable to open Hurston's mouth as it was locked shut from the poison, they wiped the inside of his cheeks, rinsed with towels, and repeated the process. It was a race against time to save him. Hurston weighed 29 lbs. After ingesting poison, Debe and Rod mixed 1/3 of an 8-gram bag of charcoal with water and applied it to his cheeks and gums. They also tried egg whites to neutralize the poison as suggested by a local vet. A friend, Larry Pascal, provided Atropina-V and saline for hydration. With great effort, they administered activated charcoal to absorb the toxins. Using a turkey baster, they gently delivered the thick liquid down his throat, ensuring he didn't choke or vomit. After several rounds, they switched to 100% pure pumpkin puree—a natural laxative—to help with constipation. Our patient pup eventually regained alertness and flexibility, and they celebrated small victories like him licking his legs. The pumpkin puree worked wonders, and he even stood outside in the breeze, eyes closing as if ready for a nap. Hurston is back to his old self thanks to your efforts, Debe and Rod!   CALLING ALL ANIMAL LOVERS! VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES AWAIT! **1. Her unwavering support as a long-time donor has left a lasting impact. May her memory be a source of comfort, and may her legacy continue to inspire kindness and compassion. Our thoughts are with her husband, Tom, during this difficult time. Rest in peace Lynn.   GET TO KNOW OUR AMIGOS DE ANIMALES FAMILY This month we're featuring a husband and wife team: Name: Gabriel and Petra Henriquez Your position/title with AdA: Gabriel - Surgical Assistant; Petra - Wherever I am needed How long have you been working with AdA? About one year Can you tell us a little bit more about what you do with AdA? Gabriel - As a surgical assistant, the first thing I do is to prepare the operating table and put out the instruments that the vet will need to operate. I check all the information on the tag to learn about each animal and fill in the form with all the procedures performed on the animal. Then I prepare the animal for surgery, keeping an eye on the animal’s breathing and pulse and help the vet as needed throughout the process. I have also been working for the Educational Outreach Program, visiting local schools and talking to the kids about Amigos de Animales and the importance of sterilizing their pets. I also talk to them about how to properly take care of a pet. Petra - I serve as a link between owners and AdA; I perform post-operative care; wake them up and bring them to their owners. Also interesting are the “Outside Clinics,” because you meet other people, see the problems in other villages and help people in areas who have less access to veterinary care. Why would you encourage others to volunteer here with AdA? Gabriel - It is a great thing to do, when you are part of a dedicated team that works hard together to help solve a social problem. By taking actions to control the pet population, we are taking steps to make this world a better place to live in and of course, helping the animals. Petra - Because you can be social while doing something that makes sense in your life! Animals need our help and people need more education regarding how to treat animals. Therefore, the work with AdA is so important to better control the reproduction of unwanted dogs and cats and help minimize the spread of disease and the suffering and starvation of these animals. Click here for the rest of Gabriel & Petra's stories and more pictures on our website.   MARK YOUR CALENDAR - UPCOMING EVENTS • Training - you can watch our new training here or our prior training here.
