Special tour for the garden club on Sunday July 2 at 9 am.55+ varieties of Heliconias for sale. (Carla, President of the Heliconia Society International, is a plant explorer and expert horticulturist with a huge collection of heliconias and tropicals displayed in her wonderful gardens.
Also waterlilies, bromeliads and other plants will be for sale.Don't miss this annual event.

Jim Fletcher - Poetry - Poems from Terra and Cairn
Mark Heyer - Short story - A Noriega HousewarmingBoquete is full of creative, cultured, and literate people! In this one-hour presentation, three local writers read excerpts from their books, talk about their work, and the support of having others’ critiques during the process of writing.
Patrick Allen Reynolds will moderate and books will be available for purchase after the reading.
This is a kick-off to an ongoing Writers Read workshop to which the public will be invited, as encouragement for other writers, and a window on the creative process.Friday April 14, 2017 at Fenix Cafe, BCP, 2:00 to 5:00 pm

Calling all Birders!
Jaramillo Gardeners Trip to Oasis Linda.
January 30, 2017, Monday 8:15 am.
Meet at San Francisco Plaza to follow our tour leader, Dr Peter Sterling to this private estate on the other side of Potrerillos.$5 donation (benefits the Library) per person.
Three hour visit, short talk with Linda, and time on your own to bird watch or collect cuttings and seeds, swim, take photos, eat your lunch, enjoy the gardens and water features, etc.Originally a citrus farm, this property has been 'wildscaped' to provide habitat for birds, butterflies and wildlife.
Linda Scott is a photographer and has captured many rarely-seen birds on the farm, with over 350 species identified. She has given a talk at BCP Tuesday Talks showcasing her amazing photographs. See the link below...You are welcome to collect seeds and plant cuttings of the many native plants.
Absolutely must wear long pants, long sleeves, and closed shoes. Bring swimsuit, binoculars, camera, bug spray, garden shears, plastic bags or a box for cuttings and seeds that you collect. Bring lunch and drinks if you want to picnic.

If you can, please bring a toy donation for kids ages 3 to 5 yrs, to the garden trip on Wednesday January 18, 2017.
(Simple toys from the dollar store, coloring books, small balls, etc.)Some generous expats and locals have organized a pinata for the kids at Minsa, the health service, next to Romero Grocery on Thursday. So I will collect any donations and get them to the event.
Children and moms start lining up for health care at 6 am, doctors arrive at 9 to 11 am and later. A long day for little kids and we are trying to brighten their day, with small toys. Life continues after Christmas.

Met up at San Francisco Plaza to car pool 9:45 am sharpJoin us for a trip to Peter Sterling's beautiful farm - citrus, coffee, and native plant nursery, overlooking the Pacific Ocean in Palmira, Panama. The garden club went here a couple years ago and it remains one of our most popular trips ever!
Plants - trees, shrubs, fruiting, flowers, etc will be for sale - all proceeds benefit the Boquete Library.
Met up at San Francisco Plaza to car pool 9:45 am sharp. Bring small bills for the donation and to purchase plants. Wear long pants and closed shoes or you will be bug lunch! FYI - there is mud on farms...
Directions if not carpooling: Finca Tangara is about 6.5 kilometers from Alto Boquete, Plaza San Francisco.
Turn right at Plaza San Francisco onto Palmira road; go straight and continue through Palmira Centro (past the Jungla).
Keep going past the Hacienda Esmeralda dairy and beneficio (on the left).
Our driveway is the first left after the beneficio.
There is a small roofed bus stop just before our drive.
The sign is before the bus stop but hard to see.
Come down the drive past the caretaker’s house 200m to the main house. -
