I have Skype and call out all the time. Skype offers a U.S. number for incoming calls and text but not in Panama'. The extra digit in Panama cell phones is the problem sometimes with forms and verifications.

I Tried Skype which does not have Panama on its list. There are others out there so I am hoping for some advice. I don't have a land line and the extra digit on the cell phones gives problems on certain forms along with verification texts.

Answered my own question. Called Costa Rica and it rang for 30 minutes. They picked up and they are emailing me a form that I can fill and email back then I will be enrolled. The person I talked to was great. 

I took S.S. at 62. According to what I have read you automatically get enrolled in Medicare part B when you hit 65. This may not be so because I use a Panama address.  I have not seen the $134.00 deduction and so I am going to enroll or check that I have been. You cannot get a S.S. online account with a foreign address. So the question is... Is there a better way to enroll or check than phoning the U.S. S.S. office #800 772 1213 or the Federal Benefits Unit, Costa Rica #506 2519 2228

I received my 7162 proof of life form yesterday at the Dolega post office. It was post marked July 4. The form was generated on June 1. I am posting this so people will start checking to avoid a hurry. The instructions are in Spanish and say I have 60 days from when I receive it to get it back to them in Wilkes-Barre Pennsylvania. Bought mine 13 years ago in the US. It is the solid shift model. No problems and no parts other than 5 trimmer line heads. It did pay for itself. Panamanians have a saying " lo barrato sale carro" in other words buy cheap and you pay it the end.

I have been looking for a method to have cell phone use for a one week trip to the US. I found Zipsim and this looks like the best option. Here is how it works. You buy one week or more of service that includes data. Soil testing can be done through IDIAP, MIDA and University of Chiriqui. It cost $20.00 and the results are comparable with US labs. They give amendment recommendations for your specific crops.  University of Chiriqui, Just past the town of Chiriqui on the right will email the results and I think they do the work for IDIAP and MIDA. It will take a about two weeks long as you avoid the Christmas period.
