  1. Our experience is DHL gets the ballot there in a week. It costs $50.00. ( For D.H.L. it must be sent to a street address not a P.O. box.) FAX of the ballot never was confirmed at either end. There were repeated attempts to FAX and with numerous FAX numbers that the Board of Elections supplied to us. We were told the FAX machines are very busy on the USA end ( Orlando) . That was no problem as Orange County Florida instructs you to send both the FAX and a hard copy by mail. Once one arrives, the vote is able to be cast and should the other eventually transmit (FAX) . In our experience the FAX never got there but the DHL did ! Each voting locality has it's own instructions. START NOW if you are planning to get a vote to the USA.
  2. Thanks for your insights Jim. I get this 6th sense that the flow might be a bit slow for a time. Amazon is now backing off on giving arrival estimates if the items are not already in stock. ( Folks might not order up if they knew off the starting block that the wait will be 2 months !.....) Alison
  3. It takes 2 months to get an order of black thread from Amazon sold by Coates and Clark right now. (They will give you a 2 week estimate then gradually shift the arrival date forward...by as much as a month....over and again.) I have been making masks for friends, the poor and charities. I use a lot of thread ! I wonder if in time with this China virus situation there will be a change in what is commercially available for the reduction of supplies coming out of China. Friends in Alaska report thinning shelves........................just pondering... Alison
  4. Happy Birthday Rodny, and thank you for all that you have done for Bill and I and our town . You are appreciated ! Alison and Bill Brundage
  5. We just need a bit more TLC ...us birds in the golden cage.
  6. Great book I strongly recommend: Eat to Beat Disease by Dr William Li Easy read. Its all about new discoveries in human physiology and nutrition. Exciting discoveries have been made to optimize heath and prevent disease. Its not a recipe book...and yes it is in ways...because ideas are presented as to how to prepare some neat healthy meals. Statistcs are presented on research studies that were mind boggling to me. HUGE differences in just a few weeks on say heart attack recovery by eating certain foods. The book is loaded with lots of real interesting facts Alison I got my book on Amazon

  8. We have been here 13 years. We LOVE it here.....everything about it. By the various modes of confinement and mandates Panama is keeping its rate of transmission at an almost even level.... RT 1 ( a bit over) . Health care in this country is not that of the USA therefore management has to be more strict in order to offer care to the sick when needed. As it is, hotels are now being used. Draconian? From a nurse's POV I'd say they are doing a pretty good job holding back the virus Infrastructure....always a problem and worse in certain areas. Alison
  9. When ethylene glycol breaks down in the body it forms chemicals that crystallize, and the crystals can collect in your kidneys and can affect kidney function. Ethylene glycol also forms acidic chemicals in the body, which can change the body’s acid/base balance and affect your nervous system, lungs, and heart. Early diagnosis and treatment have been very successful in people drinking large amounts of ethylene glycol. Source: Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry, Division of Toxicology, USA Knock off imports could be dangerous. Alison
  10. Gotta use our good common sense these daze. Exercise is great and the more the better if you don't croak from a heart attack. Digest what you read and filter it to where it fits your personal context. A friend with cancer told me "masks are dangerous". ( something that she read and does believe) Be careful. There is a lot of false information out there and some of it can really mess you up! Alison, still a nurse BTW: Latest information is ...masks may not be enough, and face shields with a masks afford you more protection. Nobody is wild about that but it may well be the absolute truth !
  11. We send our sincere condolences. So sorry for your loss Alison and Bill Brundage
  12. UPDATE: Our plate expired in May. Today we went to Dolega Muni with our revisado in hand along with copies ( now available right across the street there). The waiting line was no more than 10-15 people at any one time. Work is done directly through the jalousy windows from the street to the office inside ( perfect set up) More than one window is working. It was a bit of a wait to find out the plates are not here. I paid, and did receive an official document saying we are PAID and PLATED ( paper plated) for one year. I was handed my change and papers then told I need to go to another office ( by the stadium) in 3 months with again copies of documents to get my plates ( but you know how that goes ) . ...and what office is that? More discovery. Next we tackle paying of our auto insurance that expires in August. That's a whole nuther adventure.
  13. Those two dogs are the sweetest ever ( Wendy and pal) ! We adopted Wendy during the COVID but Wendy and her pal are in love as they are a pair. Separated, they were sad. We brought Wendy back and both were again happy and content. We can say, Wendy is as sweet as a dog can be. ( we shed a tear to take her back) To adopt them both would be a blessing for them. Alison and Bill So...when we took Wendy the dog back, we took Weasel home from the Dog Camp. It's been 3 months and we are very happy together. Thank you Dog Camp ! (BTW the Dog Camp is very flexible to make sure the dog works out for you. As with Wendy, we took her back and got another...everybody's happy !) Picture of our new Dog Camp COVID rescue dog : Weasel
  14. Licences Plate renewal. ( ours expired in May) I see cars with 2020 plates that were purchased during the quarantine period. One man I questioned this morning said he got his in Panama City ( no doubt that is where his car registry is) For those of us here, we have one month to get a new plate on our car if it is currently expired. Can anybody tell me how this is done now? Is the Dolega Municipal Office open for that currently? Thanks
  15. Good idea to wear your best mask when outside even around your house. Moist air with dust. More possibility of infectious material in the air according to the attached report. . Folks with COPD ( emphysema) should remain indoors until this passes over. Acute respiratory distress can occur and this is not the best time to need hospital support if you were to need inhalation treatment to relieve an acute bout of emphysema. 16. DENGUE: Lots of broken water pipes around where I live. Around them are ponds of water where mosquitoes can breed. We know that repair can sometimes be a ways off so a squirt of dish soap in a pond of water by your home will suppress mosquito larvae from propagation.

  18. Plan at least a couple of weeks here before you pull the plug there. You won't regret that. COVID is causing change . Change happens here normally. Some questions answered here now might be different when you decide to move here. Residents VISA. No mention of VISA?. You will need one. Opening a bank account right here and now is not as easy as you are used to there in L.A. There are folks that function here without a bank account. You must rely on ATM transactions. Mail here is received by private mail forwarder...MailBoxes Etc is one. There are ample home rentals available here.....look them over on your scout visit. Buying a car?...That's the easiest, money talks.
  19. The virus will be active for many many more months and the interior of the location does not allow for the amount of people that frequent the market and the monitoring and control of same. Distancing will be an issue for months. . A restaurant on the other hand has an ability to control the amount of customers inside and out and physically mandating the spacing. . That said, it makes absolutely no sense whatsoever for BCP to renew a a contract that can not be utilized. Seems that to allow Tap Out to move forward with business and hold the contract until the health climate changes is currently the better option.. BTW, by much blood sweat and tears of volunteer effort and input of money, restored the building that BCP has utilized. It's primary purpose was for a permanent theater location It was resurrected from a need of repair and moved forward. What evolved was a theater but as well a place for vendors. I sense COVID as the impetus for Anayansi making this business decision at this point in time. ( just my personal thoughts...)
  20. Everybody in Boquete wants BCP to continue and I sense Anayansi ( owner of the property) does as well. I have hopes that it will be worked out. Right now COVID has shut this sort of thing down anyway which affords time to possibly negotiate a plan with the Tap Out folks.
  21. Lots out recently on Vit D as apparently folks started taking mega doses. So now you see the kickback Vit D cautions out in medical literature. Vit D (which normally we get from about 30 minutes out in the sun ) certainly would be on the lower side for us ole folks confined to our homes. Vit D is essential for bone production. I take Vit D supplements in the recommended dosage for folks over 70 yr old of 4000 IU per day. Good stuff ! Take some...or...get some sun in that the forbidden will soon be allowed as of Monday. Enjoy life. Stay very mindful of all your exposure risks. Go with the flow...BUT DON"T forget....that COVID is still out there! . ...a prayer...toss that in too. Alison, nurse.
  22. Bill and I have been married now for 49 years. We've been through lots of hard times, and as well a ton of fun adventures we've shared through the years. We have always made our own cards for memorial events like Birthdays and anniversaries. These cards, saved and tucked away ,we love to look through them all now and again. This shall be a memorable year for sure ! Alison
