How to get cheaper fuel -- REPRINTED FROM NEWSROOM PANAMA
Brundageba replied to NewsLady's topic in "News.Boquete" Archives
When I listened to the explanation of this AIG information gathering when it was discussed at the dialogue table I understood it better. For one there is an estimation of use by sector: private, agriculture, transport. That assists the govt in evaluating use for further assessments. Avoiding misuse is another factor: cars filling up coming from Costa Rica , fueling passing drug boats enroute . The gas attendant is the collector of data. You are not required to enter the system yourself. That got nipped early. Govt had a big pushback on that..... I could be wrong but that's my take right now..... Government asked that if you don't need the discount....don't take it. I wonder how many will NOT?. -
Protests, Road blocks, Social unrest, & Talks
Brundageba replied to Moderator_03's topic in Miscellaneous Topics re Panama
I just heard the some Ngobe are charge $10 to get through the blockade. Others have huge caldrons of food that they are selling to those stuck...profit ! The Ngobe seem to have their feet on the necks of the govt. officials. United Nations asks the govt to treat the protestors kindly and with respect. (?? hold off) So gasoline price lowered. Some 30 or so products listed for price control ( which never works) and the conflict sees so sign of slowing down. Eye opener fer sure !!!!!!!!!!!!- 179 replies

Protests, Road blocks, Social unrest, & Talks
Brundageba replied to Moderator_03's topic in Miscellaneous Topics re Panama
The meal that was given to each of the officials : As the Ngobe delivered each meal of rice and canned tuna they explained "This is what we had to eat during COVID. This is our "SOLIDARITY GIFT " from the govt. They passed out each lunch and most officials left, AND left that lunch on the table. The Ngobe then took a photo of each lunch and named the dignitary who could not choke it down. All the dignitaries left.........and did not return for 3 hours !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The message was clear. This only fueled the conflict between the "haves and the haves-nots" . Each picky dignitary that left the food then LEFT>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>played right into their hand. (mind you the priest stood up and told them all to be considerate and eat the lunch that was given ......that apparently did not fly ) The priest ate it.... At this rate we most likely won't be seeing resolution very fast. Daily it gets worse.- 179 replies

OPINION: Knowing risks of side effects and possibility of getting infected in spite of vaccination should be as well considered. The ominously named Omicron is not causing the deaths that the Alpha and Delta did. Minsa needs to provide stats on breakthrough infection ( infection among vaccinated ) as well as observed ill effects seen here of the vaccination itself. Alison. R.N.

Walkie Talkies might work well. Buy a set of them and each person should be asked to check in if not seen by the rest. We use them in the Brisas community for emergency communication among residents here. Not expensive and work well most of the time. Alison

This is a great gift to give to Ngobe children for Christmas. My friend Jane did a fantastic job . She took on the language challenge of Nabere and Spanish and did one fantastic job of creating this children's book. Hat's off to Jane ! Alison

Sexual abuse and harassment at the Smithsonian
Brundageba replied to Moderator_03's topic in Miscellaneous Topics re Panama
What was missing in this long defensive dialogue was: 1. A detailed and serious investigation (legal and not merely policy adjustments) needs be made with immediate suspension of employees under investigation. Apparently these abuses had gone on for some period of time ( years ) without serious consequences 2. Assurance that there will be termination and punishment ( prosecution) of perpetrators if found guilty. It appears that the respected Smithsonian wishes to correct wrongs by policies rather that formal legal process with the Dept of Justice of the United States . 3. Protection for those reporting abuses. Alison- 1 reply

Baru reminds us with this rainbow that we should ever be watchful -
Why create in the minds of the population a "crisis" when there is not one? The country boasts 80% vaccination rate vs COVID but is also has an extremely high rate of natural immunity due to the manner in which the initial outbreak was handled treating early cases in homes. The Omicron has low lethality and severity as recorded worldwide so far. If this mutation takes over it strikes me as good thing...a literal downsizing of this entire Pandemic. Now is the time for a concerted move toward the direction of normalcy as our mayor here demonstrated by holding the country's 200th birthday celebration with a parade. Thank you Mr Mayor ! We all enjoyed fresh air, sunshine and the joy of celebration . Every body respected the mask mandate. Under all those masks there were smiles I know ! Alison. a nurse

Clarification: I understand gangs are different than mere thieves, but Halloween can afford a thief an opportunity if you are not cautious.

The question that is obvious is...who was guarding this facility? What form of security systems are installed to protect the property ? This rather large quantity of supplies did not walk out by themselves...it took time and vehicles. Nothing was seen???????????????
