  5. With the 2018 Boquete Jazz & Blues Festival moving to the Feria, we have more room for vendors.  If you have an artisan craft, product, or commercial business and would like to participate, please plan to attend an informational meeting at the fairgrounds THIS WEDNESDAY, 11/15 @ 10:00 a.m.  Meet with the Vendor & Volunteer Coordinator, Eddie Pittman, at the business entrance at 10:00 to get all the information.  The business entrance is the bright green building on Ave. Buenos Aires just past the main Feria "arched" entrance.

  6. Our family is spread throughout Texas, and specifically our youngest daughter, our siblings and cousins live along the Gulf Coast directly impacted by Harvey.  They are all physically safe although we have had several friends/acquaintances who have lost homes, cars, etc.. My cousin began having water in her home today with the continued rise of major rivers.

Rockport took the direct hit at landfall and is about 70% destroyed.  From Wharton County eastward into Louisiana...much remains underwater today and that water is becoming increasingly contaminated.  The city of Beaumont lost its water treatment plant and there is no clean drinking water.  The cleanup is beginning but will take a very long time.  Last report was approaching 50 deaths.

Texans are a resilient bunch and will recover.  It has been heartwarming to watch the reporting of neighbor helping neighbor.  And by neighbors I mean those across the street, those from Austin/San Antonio/Dallas and elsewhere across Texas, and those from Louisiana, Oklahoma, Kentucky, and other states.  We have two nephews involved in the rescue and recovery efforts...one with the American Red Cross who came in from Arizona, and one in law enforcement who came from Lubbock.  Our kids spent the day helping a family member salvage what they could from her flooded apartment.

To hear the comments of reporters from New York and California who came to help the local stations brought tears to my eyes more than once.  We watched ABC13's coverage almost nonstop for a week.  One reporter from Los Angeles said that he was used to covering natural disasters like earthquakes and fires, but he had never witnessed the brotherly love he had seen while in Houston.

So to answer the question about whether it is really as bad as being reported, the answer is it is much worse on a natural disaster level than you can even comprehend.  But the sense of spirit, love, support, resilience, faith, grace (and so many other words I cannot come up with without crying again), are also much more than is being reported by the national news media.  Hopefully the US and the world will see and let go of some of the hatred and anger so prevalent in these unsettling times in which we live.

  8. There are two Peneco stores.  Main store is downtown next to Nat Mendez Jewelers and one block before Hotel Cuidad de David.  The other is just over the overpass, first right, two blocks, turn left, down on the right.  I like Peneco but also like to shop at Selecta for excellent fabrics at very good prices.  Selecta is just over the overpass on the left, first store past Beverly Hills Plaza.

If you're looking for some basic work, I may be able to help.  My "workshop" will be open again soon now that the jazz fest is done.

  9. Despite the apparent rumor circulating through our little pueblo, there are LOTS of tickets still available for the Garden Party at the Panamonte Inn on Friday, and also LOTS of tickets available for the fabulous double jam scheduled for Saturday evening at The Rock.  Stop by and see us tomorrow at the Tuesday Market or at the office in the Mercado (second floor across from Ro-Her) on Wednesday 9-2 or Thursday 9-2 (you'll be in town anyway for the Parade, right??).  Tickets are $25 (CASH ONLY Please), and will also be available at the door until we reach capacity.

Other Jams available for pre-purchase or at the door are Baru Restaurant following the show in Central Park, and also at Baru Friday evening after the show at Valle Escondido. These tickets are $10.

The Jams at Mike's are currently sold out for pre-sale.  A limited number of tickets MAY be available at the door starting about 8:45 if space permits.

Also available are a limited number of tickets to the shows at Valle Escondido on Friday evening, and Saturday and Sunday.  These tickets are available online at www.mieventos.com, in person at the office, and at the door (space available).

If you are still thinking about attending the "Biggest Little Festival in the World," GET YOUR TICKETS NOW!  You don't want to miss out!

  11. Something for everyone starting with a dinner show at The Rock on Wednesday, Feb. 8, parade and free concerts in the park on Thursday, Garden Party at the Panamonte followed by a spectacular lineup at the Valle Escondido venue on Frday, plus the regular shows on Saturday and Sunday and nightly jam sessions through Feb. 12.  Tickets are available online at www.boquetejazzandbluesfestival.com, and at the office located on the second floor of the Mercado across from Ro-Her every Tues, Wed and Fri.

  12. You love music, but still don’t have tickets for the 2017 Boquete Jazz & Blues Festival?  Haven’t you seen the lineup?

Not yet mastered the ways of the web?  Holding out against the technological take-over as a matter of principle?  Do you prefer a face-to-face encounter or telephone conversation?

If the online-sales setup has been holding you back, there is good news!  The festival is opening an office on the second floor of the Boquete public market, located on Avenida A Este, across from Romero.  Beginning December 9, the office will be open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday in December.  We are here to assist with the purchase of festival tickets and jam packages, as well as answer questions on the blues bus providing transportation from Albrook and Coronado to Boquete.

Don’t put it off any longer!  Ticket prices increase on January 1, so drop by the new office or call us at 6409-0488 before the end of the year.  The deadline for the reduced ticket prices also applies to the continuing online sales. Either way, get your tickets now!
