New Moon is when the Sun and Moon connect with each other making this the dark phase of the Moon. This is a fantastic, energetic time to set intentions and create abundant possibilities.
The moon represents Yin Energy, and its characteristics include those that are “feminine”, passive, receptive, nurturing, intuitive, imaginative, softness, coolness, acceptance, flexible.
The sun represents Yang Energy; attributes are “male” energy, hardness, being assertive, passion, buoyancy, heat, thinking, action and attack.
Too much Yin energy can set people up to be lazy, unmotivated, and incorrectly believing they have minimal control over their lives. Too much Yang energy can be equally problematic. If we cannot accept the things outside of our control, we struggle greatly to feel content and safe.
Yin Yang Yoga helps to bring our energies back into balance, practicing under the new moon gives us the opportunity to set new goals and move towards that which we desire.
