In the activity - which every year gathers local and international producers and exhibitors, and that at the same time attracts thousands of tourists- thirty plant varieties are exhibited in 25 gardens that perfume the area. This year, the show paid tribute the Catholic Church event, so craftsmen designed a garden with the WYD colors emblem, showing the geographical shape of the Isthmus of Panama and its colors consistent with the tricolor national flag, as well as the Pilgrim Cross and the Virgin Mary. In the act, the president of Panama, Juan Carlos Varela, expressed that he hopes that the mountainous region will show a beautiful face to the pilgrims who will arrive in the country. The head of state said that the activity is an event of the country, in which Pope Francis will be five days, and that the arrival of more than 2000,000 pilgrims is expected. "This is an event in Panama, not an event of the Government or the church because what we want to show is the Panamanian people's heart to the world," said Varela. In addition, he welcomed pilgrims from Nicaragua and said that nearly 50,000 are expected to pass through the Paso Canoas border crossing in Panama. Panama will host, between January 22 and 27, 2019, the WYD, one of the most important events of the Catholic Church, which every three years get together thousands of young people from all over the world with the Pope. The visit of Francisco, who will arrive in Panama on January 23 and will leave on the 27th, has generated an immense interest not only in this country but throughout Central America since the last pontiff who traveled to the region was John Paul II in 1983 and 1996. https://www.panamatoday.com/life-style/panama-opens-flowers-and-coffee-fair-eye-wyd-8921 Link to comment
