ACCB (Asociación de Caridad de La Comunidad de Boquete*) and Rotary are sponsoring an Oktoberfest at the Boquete Fair Grounds on Saturday, October 14th, 2017.

Oktoberfest means that you will enjoy music, dancing, German food, beer, etc. A major fun time. Join in the festivities with your friends and neighbors.

Mark your calendars so you don't miss this special time at the Boquete Fair Grounds (Féria de Las Flores y Cafe), which is located across the Feria bridge in Boquete.

This event is a fundraiser. All proceeds go to our area's first responders (police, fire, etc.) and community members with special needs.

Watch for more details in various community media.

The organizers of the first annual Oktoberfest have indicated that they are expecting a big turnout and lots of fun family activities. We just received an email from them indicating that several restaurants and breweries are helping sponsor and advertise this event. For instance, there soon will be several 10 second and 20 second radio announcements about the Oktoberfest event that are being scheduled to air the week of the event, which means any time now. Here are the proposed words for the 20 second promotional radio announcements:

Come to the first annual German Oktoberfest at the Boquete Fairgrounds on Saturday, October 14th, starting at noon. Fun for the whole family. This is a community event to support non-profit organizations that help our community. Sponsored by the Rotary Club and the Charity Association of the Boquete Community.

Clear your calendar for next Saturday (October 14th) and head for the Boquete Fairgrounds starting at noon.

We were there with friends ... left much earlier than we planned because the music was entirely too loud.  Also, didn't like paying $2.00 for a $.69 can of beer .... but we dido.O

I don't mind paying $2 for a beer when it's for a good cause. If I want the $.69 beer, I stay home and drink it. We all agreed, the music was too loud but we had a good time anyway. We arrived at 1 and stayed until 7:30!!

I was really waiting for the ohm papa music (german oktoberfest music), didn't happen and the music that was there was really too loud.  Had a brat, potato salad, and a balboa and was ready to leave. Darn...I was hoping for more of the Oktoberfest feeling.

There was some polka music between the bands. I'm guessing ompah bands are hard to come by here ?. My suggestion for next year would be to forget the live music and just spin some Oktoberfest tunes.

We attended this event as well. Considering that this was the first one ( of hopefully an annual event)  we thought it was very well organized and pre-planned for. Lots of volunteers and servers waiting on everyone. Food and beverages received very quickly. Of course, there is room for improvement and the organizers are probably well aware of it for next years planning.

A big Thank you to all!!  You folks came together and pulled off a nice event!

Thanks to everyone for your comments.  We totally agree that the music was too loud!  I worked as one of the servers and it was difficult for me to take  orders.  I had to ask to repeat them.  We asked repeatedly for them to tone it down throughout the day and they never did.  I am so sorry about that.  We have learned some things from this experience and will definitely take all suggestions into consideration for the next event.  More umpapa would have been better too.  Thank you for coming and also for your suggestions.  Linda Hart -ACCB

Tell me again who the loud band was, so I can avoid them when they play in the future.  The volume was unbearable.  I ate and ran.

A big Thank you to our vendors Chris and Justin at Big Daddy's (for your over the top promotion and support), Ricky at The Brewery, Leslie at Skateworld, Bertie at Mort's BakeryTito's Ice cream for the kids, and of course, Frank with Emma's truck for the fabulous food.

All the bands were too loud. They were each good, it's just the building is too small for rock bands.

Another note that I've heard a few times is that because the Emma food truck menus we're on the table, people thought that was the only food option. It took us a while to realize that the other vendors were there.

I think next time as people enter someone should be sure attendees know all those details.  Actually there was only Big Daddy's selling pizza besides the food truck and Morts Bakery selling soft pretzels and Leslie from Skateworld had desserts.  Thanks for your comments.

A handout program with what entertainment is scheduled, and what food and beverage vendors are in attendance would be a big help!

Never saw any pizza!
